What Sits behind These Numbers

Why Electric Running Costs Land near Half

A reverse-cycle system moves heat rather than making it: roughly four units of heat for every unit of electricity (a coefficient of performance around 4). A gas ducted unit turns about 80% of the gas you pay for into heat in the room. At Victorian retail rates that puts electric running costs at about half the gas figure. The slider lets you set anything from 30% to 80%.

The Free Three Hours

The Supply Charge Is the Quiet One

Every day you stay connected to gas you pay a daily supply charge, about $ a year, before you burn any gas. It only disappears when the meter is disconnected. If a gas cooktop or gas hot water stays, leave the toggle off and the charge stays in the gas column.

Installed Cost and the Rebate

What Is Not Counted Here

The same unit also cools in summer at no extra purchase cost, and no cooling running cost is charged to either line. The gas ducted unit you would have to replace anyway, typically $5,000 to $7,000, is not credited against the install either. If you would otherwise be buying separate cooling or replacing the gas unit, both would tend to improve the electric case beyond what the chart shows.

Prices Change

Estimate, not a quote. Results depend entirely on the figures you enter. Energy prices, rebate levels and Midday Power Saver terms change; rebate eligibility is assessed per property and per activity and is never guaranteed. Unwind AI & Data Pty Ltd, VEU Accredited Provider .
